How Opportunities Link to Team Targets
Available In All Versions of GSP Target Tracker
The GSP Target Tracker automatically links Opportunities to the correct Team Target based on the information stored on the Opportunity and the matching criteria configured within the system.
This allows organisations to measure team-level performance by ensuring that Opportunities contribute towards the correct team’s target for the appropriate target period.
An Opportunity will only link to a Team Target when it meets the required matching conditions.
Prerequisites:
Please ensure the “GSP Target Tracker (User Access)” Permission Set is assigned to the user. If you are experiencing any issues, please confirm with your internal admin team that the Permission Set has been applied.
How It Works
An Opportunity links to a Team Target when the following conditions are met:
- The Opportunity Owner belongs to the team assigned to the Team Target
- The Opportunity date falls within the Team Target period
When both matching conditions are satisfied, the Opportunity contributes its values towards the relevant Team Target.
For example:
A January 2026 Opportunity owned by Dave Apthorp, where Dave is a member of the Sales Team, will link to the January 2026 Team Target for the Sales Team.
If the Opportunity does not meet both matching conditions, it will not contribute towards that Team Target.
Team Ownership Matching
Team Targets are assigned to groups of users rather than individual salespeople.
The system determines the correct Team Target by evaluating the Opportunity Owner and identifying the team they belong to.
The system compares:
- The Opportunity Owner
- The Team membership used by the Team Target
If the Opportunity Owner belongs to the relevant team, the Opportunity can contribute towards that team’s target.
For example:
| Opportunity Owner | Team Target | Result |
| Dave Apthorp (Sales Team) | Sales Team Target | Opportunity can link |
| Dave Apthorp (Sales Team) | Marketing Team Target | Opportunity does not link |
This ensures that team performance is measured using the Opportunities owned by members of that team.
Target Period Matching
The Opportunity date determines which Team Target period the Opportunity contributes towards.
By default, the GSP Target Tracker uses the Opportunity Close Date when determining the correct target period.
The system compares:
- The Opportunity Close Date
- The Team Target period
For example:
| Opportunity Close Date | Team Target Period | Result |
| January 15th 2026 | January 2026 Target | Opportunity can link |
| January 15th 2026 | February 2026 Target | Opportunity does not link |
If your organisation has configured a custom target date, that field will be used instead of the standard Opportunity Close Date.
Key Fields
Opportunity Owner
Determines which team receives credit for the Opportunity. The Opportunity Owner is used to identify the team responsible for the Opportunity. For an Opportunity to contribute towards a Team Target, the Opportunity Owner must belong to the team associated with that target.
Close Date
Determines which target period the Opportunity contributes towards. By default, the Opportunity Close Date is used to match Opportunities to Team Target periods. For example, an Opportunity closing in January contributes towards January Team Targets, whereas an Opportunity closing in February contributes towards February Team Targets. If a custom target date has been configured, that field will determine the matching period instead.
Team Target
Represents the performance target assigned to a group of users. Team Targets aggregate the relevant Opportunities owned by users within that team. They allow organisations to measure performance at a team level rather than only by individual salesperson.
Do Not Link to Target
Prevents an Opportunity from contributing towards any target. When this checkbox is enabled, the Opportunity will not link to Salesperson Targets, Team Targets or Product Targets. This is useful when certain Opportunities should be excluded from performance calculations.
Important Considerations:
An Opportunity contributes to the appropriate Team Target based on ownership
Team Targets rely on the Opportunity Owner to determine team responsibility. If the Opportunity Owner does not belong to the expected team, the Opportunity will not contribute towards that Team Target.
Team Targets and Salesperson Targets can both include the same Opportunity
Unlike Product Targets, Opportunities can contribute towards multiple target types. A single Opportunity may contribute towards the salesperson’s individual target and the salesperson’s team’s target. This allows organisations to measure performance at multiple levels simultaneously.
Existing Opportunities may not automatically relink
Changes to matching criteria, such as changing team membership or target date configuration, may not automatically update existing target relationships. If historical Opportunities need to be reassigned, target records may need to be recreated.
