How Opportunity Products Link to Catch-All Product Targets
Available In All Versions of GSP Target Tracker
The GSP Target Tracker automatically links Opportunity Products to the correct Catch-All Product Target based on the information stored on the Opportunity Product, the related Product, and the Opportunity.
Catch-All Product Targets allow organisations to track product performance regardless of which salesperson is responsible for the Opportunity.
Unlike salesperson-specific Product Targets, Catch-All Product Targets do not depend on the Opportunity Owner. Instead, they provide a shared target for all Opportunity Products that match the relevant product category and target period.
An Opportunity Product will only link to a Catch-All Product Target when it meets all required matching conditions.
Prerequisites:
Please ensure the “GSP Target Tracker (User Access)” Permission Set is assigned to the user. If you are experiencing any issues, please confirm with your internal admin team that the Permission Set has been applied.
How It Works
An Opportunity Product links to a Catch-All Product Target when the following conditions are met:
- The Product Category matches the Catch-All Product Target Product Category
- The Opportunity date falls within the Catch-All Product Target period
When both matching conditions are satisfied, the Opportunity Product contributes its values towards the relevant Catch-All Product Target.
For example:
An Opportunity Product with a Product Category of “Generators”, linked to a January 2026 Opportunity, will link to the January 2026 Catch-All Product Target for “Generators”.
The salesperson responsible for the Opportunity does not affect the Catch-All Product Target matching logic.
Product Category Matching
The Product Category determines which Catch-All Product Target an Opportunity Product can contribute towards.
The system uses the Product Category on the related Product record rather than a value stored directly on the Opportunity Product.
The system compares:
- The Product Category on the Product
- The Product Category on the Catch-All Product Target
For example:
| Product Category | Catch-All Target Category | Result |
| Generators | Generators | Opportunity Product can link |
| Generators | Solar Panels | Opportunity Product does not link |
This allows organisations to define Catch-All Product Targets around their own product groupings, such as:
- Individual products
- Product families
- Industries
- Markets or regions
Target Period Matching
The Opportunity date determines which Catch-All Product Target period the Opportunity Product contributes towards.
By default, the GSP Target Tracker uses the Opportunity Close Date when determining the correct target period.
The system compares:
- The Opportunity Close Date
- The Catch-All Product Target period
For example:
| Opportunity Close Date | Catch-All Target Period | Result |
| January 15th 2026 | January 2026 Target | Opportunity Product can link |
| January 15th 2026 | February 2026 Target | Opportunity Product does not link |
If your organisation has configured a custom target date, that field will be used instead of the standard Opportunity Close Date.
Salesperson Product Targets and Catch-All Priority
Organisations can use salesperson-specific Product Targets and Catch-All Product Targets together.
When both types of Product Target exist, the system follows a priority order:
- Salesperson Product Target
- Catch-All Product Target
If an Opportunity Product matches a salesperson-specific Product Target, it will link to that target instead of the Catch-All Product Target.
If no matching salesperson-specific Product Target exists, the Opportunity Product can link to the Catch-All Product Target.
For example:
| Scenario | Result |
| Dave has a Generator Product Target and the Opportunity is owned by Dave | Links to Dave’s Product Target |
| Dave does not have a Generator Product Target, but a Catch-All Generator Target exists | Links to Catch-All Product Target |
This ensures that organisations can track individual salesperson performance while still maintaining broader product-level targets.
Key Fields
Product Category
Determines which Catch-All Product Target category the Opportunity Product contributes towards. The Product Category is stored on the related Product record. For an Opportunity Product to link, the Product Category must match the Catch-All Product Target category.
Opportunity Close Date
Determines which target period the Opportunity Product contributes towards. By default, the Opportunity Close Date is used to match Opportunity Products to Catch-All Product Target periods. If a custom target date has been configured, that field will determine the matching period instead.
Product Target Type
Determines whether the Opportunity Product contributes towards a salesperson-specific Product Target or a Catch-All Product Target. When both target types exist, salesperson-specific Product Targets take priority.
Do Not Link to Target
Prevents an Opportunity Product from contributing towards any target. When the related Opportunity has the “Do Not Link to Target” checkbox enabled, its Opportunity Products will not link to Salesperson Targets, Team Targets or Product Targets.
Important Considerations:
Catch-All Product Targets do not use Opportunity Owner matching
Unlike salesperson-specific Product Targets, Catch-All Product Targets apply regardless of who owns the Opportunity. The system only considers Product Category and Target Period when identifying the correct Catch-All Product Target.
Product Categories must be populated correctly
Opportunity Products associated with Products without a Product Category will not link to Catch-All Product Targets. Before creating Product Targets, organisations should ensure all relevant Products have the correct Product Category assigned.
Each Opportunity Product can only link to one Product Target
An Opportunity Product cannot contribute towards both a salesperson-specific Product Target and a Catch-All Product Target at the same time. If a matching salesperson-specific Product Target exists, it will always take priority.
