Apply the Target Tracker Permission Sets

In most businesses, different team members require different levels of control and visibility within Salesforce.

For example, sales managers will want the ability to create, edit and delete targets in a quick and easy way. Comparatively, sales users simply want to ensure their Opportunity data is contributing to their targets as expected.

The GSP Target Tracker includes multiple permission sets that ensure users have the correct access level to the components and functionality included in the package.

Prerequisites:
You will need a system administrator to complete the steps in this article. If you’re unsure, get in touch.

Steps to Complete

  1. Navigate to the setup menu and click “Setup”.
  2. Search for “Permission Sets” in the Quick Find search bar.
  3. Click the “Permission Sets” option under the Users section in the sidebar.
  4. Find the “GSP Target Tracker” Permission Sets in the list.
    • If you have a lot of permission sets, you can click the “G” to filter the list.
    • If you want to make it easy to find GSP permission sets in the future, consider creating a new “List View” with a “Permission Set Name starts with GSP” filter.
  5. There are two “GSP” permission sets included. Decide which permission set to update first.
    • “GSP Target Tracker (User Access)” ensures that users are able to see target records, and target related fields. This ensures that Opportunities are able to link, unlink, and rollup to the appropriate target records.
    • “GSP Target Tracker (Full Access)” grants users access to the “Manage Targets” page, which allows for the quick creation of target records for users, teams and products.
  6. Click the first permission set to update, and select “Manage Assignments”.
  7. Click “Add Assignments”.
  8. Using your User list views, find and select the users to add to the permission set using the checkbox to the left of the user.
    • Changing the list view mid-assignment causes all selections to be lost.
    • If you need to change the list view, click “Next”, “Assign”, “Done” and reclick the “Add Assignment” page to prevent lost progress.
  9. Once added, repeat steps 6-8 for he second permission to update.

Outcomes

Once the permission sets have been assigned, users will be able to access fields and components included in GSP Target Tracker as required.

Important Consideration:
If you’ve made your own customisations to GSP Target Tracker access, these permissions will overwrite them. The purpose of these permission sets is to grant the GSP-recommended access levels to prevent errors and ensure automations work as intended.

Troubleshooting

I can’t see the permission sets, where are they?
If you are on a much older version of the GSP Target Tracker, the permissions may not exist in your environment.

Recommendation:
Please upgrade the GSP Target Tracker to the latest version. If you have any issues, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Do I need to assign users to both permission sets?
No, the “Full Access” permission set grants everything that the “User Access” permission set does, plus the additional “Manage Target” page and features.

Recommendation:
Assign “User Access” to the users that will not need to create or modify sales targets. Assign “Full Access” to the users that will be responsible for loading and managing the target records in Salesforce.
