Adding Fields to the Page Layouts

When an Opportunity or Opportunity Product matches against a target record in the GSP Target Tracker, a relationship is made between the two records using a Lookup field.

We strongly recommend adding the relationship fields (as well as a couple of other fields) to the Opportunity and Opportunity Product page layouts, depending on the targets you intend to create.

These fields will help you understand when an Opportunity and/or Opportunity Product is linked or unlinked from a target record, and are especially helpful for troubleshooting if an Opportunity or Opportunity Product isn’t linking as expected.

Prerequisites:
You will need a system administrator to complete the steps in this article. If you’re unsure, get in touch. Additionally, please ensure the “GSP Target Tracker (Full Access)” Permission Set is assigned to the admin user.

Steps to Complete

If you intend to track salesperson or team targets, read points 1 and 2, and continue from point 3. If you are only tracking product targets, continue from point 10.

  1. Navigate to the setup menu and click “Setup”.
  2. Select the “Object Manager”.
  3. Find and click the “Opportunity” object in the Object Manager.
    • You can scroll the list or use the “Quick Find” search bar in the top-right corner.
  4. Navigate to “Page Layouts” in the Opportunity object.
  5. Find and click the page layout you are actively using on the Opportunity.
    • If you have multiple page layouts in use (e.g., across multiple record types), you will need to complete steps 5-9 for each page layout.
  6. Add a new section to the selected page layout called “Target Information”.
    • Position this section wherever it best fits your current page layout (we typically recommend placing it towards the bottom of the page).
  7. Depending on the targets you intend to create, add the following to your new “Target Information” section.
    • For Sales Target usage, add the “Sales Target” and “Target Type” fields.
    • For Team Target usage, add the “Team Target” and “Team” fields.
    • If you wish to create both Sales and Team targets, add all four fields.
  8. Additionally, add the “Do Not Link To Target” field.
  9. Once you are happy with the included fields and their positioning, click “Save”.
  10. Return to the “Object Manager”.
  11. Find and click the “Opportunity Product” object in the Object Manager.
  12. Navigate to “Page Layouts” in the Opportunity Product object.
  13. Find and click the page layout you are actively using on the Opportunity Product.
  14. Add a new section to the selected page layout called “Target Information”.
    • Position this section wherever it best fits your current page layout (we typically recommend placing it towards the bottom of the page).
  15. Add the following to your new “Target Information” section.
    • Add the “Product Target” field and “Target Type” fields.
  16. Once you are happy with the included fields and their positioning, click “Save”.

Outcomes

Once you’ve added the fields to the Opportunity and/or Opportunity Product, you will be able to see which target record the Opportunity or Opportunity Product is linked to.

Important Consideration:
We recommend adding the target type and team fields where appropriate, even if you’re not intending to use them. Surfacing this field allows for easy troubleshooting if an Opportunity or Opportunity Product is not linking as expected.

Troubleshooting

Do I need to add all of the fields to both Opportunities and Opportunity Products?
No, you don’t have to. In fact, you don’t have to add any of the fields for the GSP Target Tracker to function. That said, we strongly recommend adding the fields to both objects to surface target relationship data.

Recommendation:
Whilst you don’t have to, we suggest adding all GSP Target Tracker fields to the Opportunity and Opportunity Product for complete visibility of target relationships.
